PERIODONTAL TREATMENT (DEEP GUM CLEANING TREATMENT)

Periodontal treatment involves deep cleaning (also called scaling and root planing), which is needed to remove bacteria, calculus (tartar), debris and toxin that has collected under the gum line overtime. When severe gum disease occurs, periodontal treatment can help delay the shrinking of gum, teeth mobility, and tooth loss.

Periodontitis, or gum disease, is a common infection that damages the soft tissue and bone supporting your teeth. Although there is no cure for gum disease, the best chance for successful treatment and prevention is by adopting a good oral care routine to manage conditions that may impact your dental health.

Soul Dental provides both non-surgical periodontal treatment options designed to thoroughly deep clean the pockets around your teeth and prevent damage to the surrounding bone. Initial non-surgical treatment involves scaling and root planing which includes the removal of biofilm (soft plaque) and calculus (tartar) from above and below the gum-line and into any deep pockets present. We also have a great network of periodontal specialists that we trust in to look after you in the instance that you require surgical periodontal treatment.

Treatments may involve multiple appointments and can be performed under local anaesthetic for added comfort. After approximately four to six weeks, periodontal pockets will reduce due to gum shrinkage and can then be maintained with routine diligent brushing and flossing at home, and frequent routine professional cleans.

To arrange an initial deep cleaning periodontal treatment, contact Soul Dental for an appointment.

Even in most severe cases of periodontal disease, non-surgical periodontal therapy most often precedes surgical therapy. This is done so that the overall tissue quality is improved prior to surgery and also limits the areas of required surgery.
