Hi, I’m Dr Rita Lai, your local dentist and proud to be able to offer you a range of professional services using the most advanced equipment right here in Varsity Lakes. Why did I become a dentist? Well, dentistry is in my blood. My uncle is a dentist and I used to go to his office after school. Back then I didn’t know much about what dentistry meant aside from seeing my uncle with his patients, the relationship he had with them, and the chats they had as if they had been friends for years.
I have always loved working with people and being able to help others, so it was seeing the difference my uncle made for adults and children alike that made me think I wanted to be a dentist. Since then, I’ve earned a degree in Biology and graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science and a Graduate Diploma of Dentistry and have practiced at a number of highly regarded clinics.
Now I’ve decided to go out on my own, I want to create a space that can make a difference for anyone needing a dentist, a place that provides the best customer service and a place that uses advanced digital technologies, highest quality materials, with meticulous attention to detail. More importantly, a place that cares about its patients as individuals in everything we do, as I believe people never forget a dentist who gives them a beautiful smile, and also won’t forget how we make them feel.
I strive to be gentle, thorough, and communicate openly to ensure that my patients understand their oral health. With a love of all aspects of general dentistry, I always emphasise the importance of preventative care. Outside of work, I love taking my dog, named Frankenstein on adventures, enjoy doing Zumba, karate, and watching Netflix. You will usually find me at the local shops enjoying good food, catching up with friends, seeing the newest movies, or all of the above together.

In the event of a tooth becoming so damaged and compromised that it can’t support a filling, or suffers from cracks, we can restore the tooth using a crown. Whether you need to protect a weak tooth, hold a bridge in place or want to make a cosmetic adjustment, we can provide a personalised consultation to suit your needs.
Dental crowns are designed to protect the portion of teeth above the gums and are often referred to as ‘caps’. Our procedure begins with replacing and building up a strong core for the tooth, preparing the tooth to the ideal shape and size, taking a mould of your tooth and sending it to our dental laboratory where the crown is manufactured out of porcelain, ceramic, or gold. When you return two weeks later, the crown is then fitted over the top using dental cement or adhesive.
Although dental crowns cannot decay, oral care is still needed to ensure the edge of the tooth in which it sits stays healthy and strong. Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing is the best form of preventive treatment and should ensure your new crown stays strong for years to come.
